With reductions in renewable energy prices and increases in national power tariffs, municipalities are facing pressure to integrate options such as embedded rooftop solar PV or wind generators into their networks. Landfill and sewage methane for electricity generation are also potentially viable renewable energy options.

A Renewable Energy Roadmap for African Cities
The aim of this guide is to assist Cities to develop a renewable energy roadmap, which incorporates renewable energy into the energy mix over time and ensures the collaboration of stakeholders and coordination of investments. It draws upon the experience of Sub-Saharan African cities in understanding energy demand and the learnings of eThekwini Municipality, which recently developed a Renewable Energy Roadmap.
