ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Our cities are high energy consumption nodes in the country. Indications are that without intervention, South African cities’ energy consumption is set to double in the next 20 or so years. This is a challenge, but also a vital opportunity for cities to shift to a more sustainable energy path. The first step is to meet our energy needs with the ‘best’ energy service available: energy efficiency. This includes thermally efficient buildings, efficient water heating and ventilation, efficient industrial motors, community awareness and behaviour changes, as well as new planning approaches to urban development.
