Electricity Wheeling in South African Municipalities

Wheeling refers to the use of Eskom/Municipal grids to transport electricity from a private generator to a private off-taker. Electricity wheeling is an important model to facilitate private sector investment in electricity generation. Wheeling across Eskom’s network is thriving with hundreds of megawatts of generation currently under construction to wheel. Municipalities have a key role to play to enable wheeling to municipal-connected customers. This video provides on overview of electricity wheeling in South African Municipalities. This video was funded by the Western Cape Government as part of their support to enable municipal energy resilience. Featuring Bongani Mandla from George Municipality.
