Renewable Energy Vision 2030 – South Africa

This report shows that the levelised cost of producing renewable energy already competes favourably with the three main alternatives, namely coal, gas and nuclear, and that a broader renewable energy base would contribute to a more climate-resilient future and insulate South Africa from dependence on expensive and unreliable fuel sources priced in dollars. Critical from a planning perspective, renewable energy can also provide added flexibly on an ‘as needed’ basis, as electricity demand grows. This is vital in a highly uncertain environment.
