This strategy was approved by Cabinet in November 2011. It builds on the 2008 National Framework for Sustainable Development and several initiatives that were launched by the business sector, government, NGOs, civil society, academia and other key role players to address issues of sustainability in South Africa. This greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory spreadsheet template was created for eThekwini Municipality, but can be used by other municipalities wishing to create their own GHG inventories. The inventory is based on ICLEI’s International Local Government GHG Emissions Analysis Protocol V1.0 and Local Government Operations Protocol for the Quantification and Reporting of GHG Inventories V1.1.
